PDF N-up guide
Place two or four source PDF pages onto each new A4 or US Letter sheet for compact review or printing.
What this tool does
The PDF N-up tool creates a fresh document with multiple source pages scaled onto every output sheet. Two-up layout uses two cells: on landscape paper they sit side by side, while portrait paper stacks them vertically. Four-up layout uses a two-by-two grid. Each source page is scaled proportionally to fit its cell, centered, and never stretched out of shape.
You can choose A4 or US Letter, portrait or landscape orientation, and an outer margin from 0 to 72 PDF points. A small internal gutter separates neighboring cells. If the source page count does not fill the final sheet, the unused cells remain blank. Source pages are embedded as page content rather than first being converted to bitmap screenshots.
N-up output is useful for proofreading, handouts, reference copies, and reducing paper use. It is not booklet imposition: pages remain in normal reading order and are not rearranged for folding or binding. The tool also does not add crop marks, page numbers, duplex instructions, bleed, or printer-specific compensation.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF up to 50 MB and 500 pages.
- Select two or four pages per sheet.
- Choose A4 or US Letter and the desired orientation.
- Set an outer margin; 18 to 30 points is a practical starting range.
- Create the N-up PDF, download it, and print one test sheet.
Small source text becomes smaller after scaling. Four-up is compact but may be unsuitable for detailed forms or accessibility needs. Use two-up or the original document when comfortable reading size matters.

Printing and document limitations
Printer dialogs can apply an additional “pages per sheet” or “fit” setting. Leave that disabled when printing an already N-up PDF unless another reduction is intentional. Rebuilding may not retain every bookmark, form behavior, link, tag, or digital signature. Password-protected sources are unsupported, and the output is not certified for archival or press production.
