Loan Calculator guide

Estimate the monthly payment, total repayment, and total interest for a fixed-rate installment loan.

What this tool does

The loan calculator uses the standard amortized-payment formula with the principal, monthly interest rate, and total number of monthly payments. It assumes the annual rate remains fixed and the same payment is made every month for the full term. A zero-interest loan is handled separately by dividing principal evenly across all payments.

The currency choice changes only the display symbol; it does not perform exchange-rate conversion. The estimate does not include taxes, insurance, origination fees, late charges, balloon payments, changing rates, or other lender-specific costs. For a home loan estimate that separates property tax, home insurance, and HOA charges, use the Mortgage Calculator.

How to use it

  1. Choose the display currency.
  2. Enter the amount you plan to borrow.
  3. Enter the annual interest rate.
  4. Enter the repayment term in years.
  5. Select Calculate payment.

Review the estimated monthly payment alongside the total interest and total repayment. Try different rates or terms to understand how they affect the cost.

Benefits

  • Handles standard fixed-rate monthly repayment calculations
  • Correctly supports zero-interest loans
  • Shows both monthly and lifetime borrowing costs
  • Runs privately without saving financial inputs

Understanding the payment

Monthly payment is the mathematical amount needed to reduce the balance to zero over the selected term under the stated assumptions. Total repayment is the monthly amount multiplied by the number of payments, while total interest is the difference between that total and the amount borrowed. Small differences from a lender schedule can result from payment-date rules, daily interest, or rounding.

Use comparisons to understand tradeoffs: a longer term can lower the monthly payment while increasing lifetime interest, and a lower rate can reduce both. The tool does not assess affordability, eligibility, credit risk, or the suitability of a loan.

Financial notice: This calculator provides an educational estimate, not a quote, approval, or financial recommendation. Review official disclosures and repayment schedules from a regulated lender before making a borrowing decision.

FAQ

No. The estimate only uses principal, interest rate, and term. Ask the lender for an official payment schedule that includes taxes, insurance, fees, and any special payment conditions.

A longer term can reduce the monthly payment, but the balance remains outstanding for more months and usually accumulates more total interest. Compare both monthly and total figures rather than focusing on one.

No. The calculation runs in your browser and ToolSeta does not receive or save the values you enter.

No. Currency selection changes the symbol used to display results. Enter an amount already expressed in the selected currency.

A lender may use daily interest, rounded payment schedules, fees, insurance, taxes, introductory rates, or a final adjusted payment. The lender's contractual disclosure is the authoritative figure.
