BMI Calculator guide

Estimate body mass index using metric or imperial measurements.

What this tool does

Body mass index divides weight in kilograms by height in meters squared. Imperial values are converted to kilograms and meters before the same formula is applied, so equivalent inputs produce equivalent results apart from display rounding. ToolSeta also reverses the formula to show the weight range associated with BMI values from 18.5 through 24.9 for the entered height.

BMI is a broad screening measure, not a direct measurement of body fat, fitness, or health. It does not account for muscle mass, pregnancy, age-specific growth, body composition, or individual clinical history.

How to use it

  1. Choose metric or imperial units.
  2. Enter weight and height.
  3. Select Calculate BMI.
  4. Review the BMI value and general range label.
  5. Treat the healthy-weight figure as a reference estimate, not a personal target.

Benefits

  • Metric and imperial support
  • Instant healthy-weight estimate
  • Consistent formula after unit conversion
  • Clear range interpretation alongside the number

Understanding the result

The tool labels values below 18.5 as below the general reference range, 18.5 through 24.9 as within it, 25 through 29.9 as above it, and 30 or higher as high. These adult screening thresholds are not appropriate for diagnosing a condition or evaluating every person.

Health notice: This calculator provides a general educational estimate and is not medical advice. A qualified healthcare professional can assess body composition, age, health history, and other factors that BMI cannot represent.
