What this tool does

This local background remover examines the red, green, and blue values of every pixel and measures how far the darkest channel is from pure white. Pixels inside the selected sensitivity range receive partial or complete transparency, then the browser exports the result as a PNG with an alpha channel.

This method is designed for white or very light, evenly lit backgrounds. It is intentionally transparent about that limitation: it does not identify people or objects with a segmentation model and cannot reliably separate a detailed subject from a complex scene.

How to use it

Select a product photo or portrait with a light background.
Start with a lower sensitivity when the subject contains white details.
Increase sensitivity until most of the backdrop is selected.
Select Remove light background.
Download the transparent PNG and inspect its edges.

Choosing the right sensitivity

A lower value protects pale parts of the subject but may leave a faint background halo. A higher value removes more gray or off-white backdrop, but it can also make white clothing, reflections, paper, or highlights transparent. Re-run the tool after changing the slider because each setting creates a new output.

For best results, use a well-lit image with clear contrast between the subject and backdrop. Complex hair, shadows, colored scenery, and transparent objects generally require semantic image segmentation rather than this color-threshold method.

The transparent PNG is rendered from decoded pixels rather than copied from the source container. Camera fields, comments, location tags, and embedded color profiles are not intentionally preserved. Review the visible scene and inspect highly sensitive output separately; changing the background is not the same as complete metadata removal or anonymization.
