What this tool does

The Unit Price Comparison Calculator divides each package price by its quantity. It reports both unit prices, identifies the lower one, shows the absolute difference per unit, and calculates the relative saving compared with the higher unit price.

This is useful when package sizes differ, such as 750 grams versus 1,000 grams or 12 items versus 18 items. The quantity label is for clarity and does not perform unit conversion. Both quantities must already use the same measurement, such as both in grams rather than one in grams and one in kilograms.

The relative saving uses the higher unit price as the comparison baseline. Equal unit prices produce a zero difference and zero relative saving even if the package totals differ.

How to use it

Enter package A's total price and usable quantity.
Enter package B's total price and usable quantity.
Enter the shared quantity label, such as g, ml, oz, or item.
Choose a currency for display.
Select Compare unit prices and check that both quantities mean the same thing.

Convert measurements before comparing when necessary. For example, convert 1.5 kilograms to 1,500 grams if the other package is entered in grams.

Purchase considerations

The lowest unit price is not automatically the best purchase. Consider quality, usable yield, expiry, storage, shipping, taxes, membership requirements, return policies, and whether the larger amount will be consumed. A product with more waste can have a higher effective cost despite a lower labeled unit price.

Promotions such as buy-one-get-one offers, coupons, loyalty credits, and minimum-order discounts should be reflected in the actual total price and usable total quantity. Currency selection changes display formatting but does not convert prices between currencies.
