What this tool does
The Word Counter scans Unicode letters and numbers to identify words, including common apostrophes and hyphen-like marks inside a word. It also reports total characters, characters excluding whitespace, sentences, paragraphs, and physical lines. Reading time is estimated at 200 words per minute and rounded up to the next complete minute.
Sentence counting looks for groups ending with a period, question mark, exclamation mark, or the end of the input. Paragraphs are separated by one or more blank lines. These rules are practical for ordinary prose, but they are not a full grammar parser and may interpret abbreviations, decimal points, or highly formatted writing differently from a human editor.

Understanding the counts
Character limits often include punctuation and spaces, so use the Characters result unless a form explicitly excludes whitespace. Lines describe the actual newline breaks in the input; they are not the visual lines created when long text wraps inside the box. Paragraphs require blank-line separation rather than indentation alone.
Reading time is a planning estimate, not a prediction for every reader. Technical material, unfamiliar vocabulary, tables, and text intended for speaking aloud can take longer. Use the same counting tool throughout a project when consistency matters, because different editors can define contractions, symbols, and hyphenated terms differently.
